335 The Arts and Human Development
The
primary purpose of this course is to explore the
ways in which the arts serve human development.
Students examine the relationship between the
arts and various dimensions of development such
as cognitive, cultural, and emotional growth. This
course is interdisciplinary in nature and addresses
some of the following questions: What is art? Do
different forms of art serve different functions?
What do the arts teach children that other
traditional subjects do not teach? What is the role
of creativity in art? Students are encouraged to
explore connections between the arts and
education while also reflecting upon the
significance of the arts in their own lives.
