Student-Faculty Research

The Biology Department has received over $800,000 in grant money from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, The Johnson Foundation, The National Science Foundation, Merck Foundation, National Geographic Society and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.

Approximately 60% of biology majors conduct one or more semesters of original research as part of an independent study or honors project.

Many student research projects are presented at regional or national scientific meetings (see below)

Many student research projects result in scientific publications co-authored with Biology Department faculty (see below)

Summer research opportunities exist to work with Biology Department faculty or faculty from Cornell University at the NYS Agricultural Experiment Station, located in Geneva. Stipends are provided for summer research along with free room and board.
