Cadence Whittier, Associate Professor, M.F.A., CLMA
Cadence Whittier has been teaching at Hobart and William Smith Colleges since Fall 2000. She teaches courses in Anatomy and Kinesiology, Ballet and Pointe Technique, Laban Movement Analysis/Bartenieff Fundamentals, and Arts and Human Development. She has also worked with students independently in Dance Education, Movement Science, Arts Education, Somatic Therapy, and Dance Philosophy.
Cadence received her MFA and BFA from the University of Utah and her certification in Laban Movement Analysis from Integrated Movement Studies in Salt Lake City, Utah. Cadence performs and choreographs annually; she has presented her work at the Cool New York Dance Festival and d.u.m.b.o. Dance Festival in Brooklyn, NY, at the Rochester Contemporary Dance Collective concert series, at Ohio Wesleyan and Cornell Universities, at the CRS Barn in Ithaca, NY, at Interlochen Academy of the Arts, at the National Dance Education Organization Conference in Buffalo, NY, and for the Absolute Dance Company in Auburn, NY. Cadence continues to pursue her interests in movement outreach. She teaches dance classes to local fifth grade students in the Geneva School District. Her approach to movement outreach has been inspired by her work with Jacques D’Amboise’s National Dance Institute in New York City, and Ballet West’s I.C.A.N.D.O program in Salt Lake City, Utah.
