The
department of economics at Hobart and William Smith has a distinctive
curriculum that provides a traditional economics major and more.
The typical economics courses required of all majors are Principles
of Economics, Microeconomic Theory and Policy, Macroeconomic Theory
and Policy, Political Economy, Statistics, Econometrics.
Course offerings in the economics department are designed both
to meet the needs of students who wish a better understanding of
the economic issues that affect their lives and to meet the needs
of students who have an interest in an extended, in depth study
of economics.
The department offers introductory and advanced
courses that examine important issues using the analytical tools
of the discipline in addition to courses that examine major economic
theories. Courses at the 100 level are open to all. Prerequisites
for 200-level, 300-level, and 400-level courses are indicated.
Economics offers a disciplinary B.A. major and minor. All departmental
courses must be completed with a grade of C or better in order to
be credited toward the major or minor.
