WELCOME
to the Education Department at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Our department is a vibrant community of educators and students
committed to the liberal arts and our field-based teacher certification
program. We provide our students with regional and international
classroom experiences, in conjunction with issue oriented seminars,
that enable them to make tangible connections between educational
theory and practice. Education students strive to become reflective
teachers as they construct their own perspectives, understandings
and convictions about teaching and learning.
About the Education Program
Undergraduate teacher certification programs are available in childhood
education (grades 1-6), special education (students with disabilities, grades 1-6), adolescence
education (grades 7-12), and art education (P-12).
Our new Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program builds on the
successful undergraduate program at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
It is designed exclusively for Hobart and William Smith undergraduate
liberal arts majors who are interested in extending their professional
certification experience to a fifth year and incorporating a masters
thesis or project.
