courses numbered 175 or above. Up to
two literature courses taught outside the
department may count toward the major
with the consent of the department chair.
Students interested in majoring in English
should contact a department faculty
member to discuss possible areas of
concentration or alternative courses to
those within the department.
Literary Consciousness is a required introduction to the English major and may not be exempted. Students who receive a 4 or 5 on the English AP exam, or who have transferred in credit for an introductory course from another college, may apply their credit towards a non-core elective course.
