Any Interdisciplinary Introductory Environmental Studies
Course:
Examples include: Biodiversity, Energy, Global Change, and Water. These courses are typically co-taught by two professors
from different disciplines and/or include guest lectures by professors
or other specialists from different disciplines to introduce the
interdisciplinary approach to environmental studies. Select the
introductory course that best suits your interests. Juniors and Seniors are asked/allowed to substitute a core course for this introductory requirement. The selected core course must be from outside the division of the student's disciplinary major/minor.
Required by majors and minors.
"Core" Environmental Studies Courses
A selection of cross-listed departmental courses, each with significant
environmental content. These courses are selected from the Humanities,
Social Sciences and Natural Sciences and highlight the interdicaiplinary
nature of the Environmental Studies degree. Careful selection of
the "Core" and "Elective" courses allows a student
to satisfy one of many areas of concentration defined below.
Required by majors and minors.
"Elective" Environmental Studies Courses
These cross-listed courses provide the opportunity to investigate
pressing environmental concerns, e.g., global climate change, or
specific areas of concentration, e.g., Environmental Science, Social
Ecology, Concepts of Nature, Public Policy or Aquatic Studies.
Required by majors and minors.
The Senior Integrative Experience
An individual or group "CAPSTONE" interdisciplinary course
on any environmental issue. Work one-on-one with a professor on
your topic, or work with a group of seniors, and present your results
to the Environmental Studies community. An "environmental"
internship may satisfy this requirement. See link on left to listing
of past projects.
Required by majors.
