The Maghreb: North Africa
between Islam and modernity


- This course introduces students to the North African Maghreb, its landscape and history, its culture and people.

- We will study Francophone texts in translation, how they develop into the national literatures of Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia.

- In particular, we will study how narratives of resistance against French colonialism evolve into texts constructing individual and national identities.
