Welcome to the Media and Society Program
About The Program
Media and society is an interdisciplinary program designed to study the social, cultural, economic, and political influences of global communications, mass media, the press, and the arts. Students also develop their capacity of expression in writing, music, dance or the visual arts. The purpose of the program is to encourage students to pursue their creative interests while developing a critical understanding of the influences-both desirable and undesirable-that mass media, the press, and the arts have and can have on society in an emerging global economy. The media and society program offers an interdisciplinary major and minor. Both the major and the minor require students to complete work in two areas: media studies and the creative arts. All media and society majors must also complete an internship and cognate courses in American history or social consciousness, and in social theory, and demonstrate competence in a foreign language.
