Careers

The Media and Society Program was started in 1996. We have consciously sought to develop a program color tv camera collagewhich is grounded in liberal arts, rather than focus on overtly technical concerns. As such, our graduates find themselves pursuing any number of different career options. Some graduates, of course, go on to graduate school in a variety of areas from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University to various law schools. Others, of course, seek gainful employment.

Recent classes of graduates include a newspaper photographer in Boston, an aspiring comic in Chicago (working with the Second City), several people in the book business (Random House and Harper Collins) as well as a number of event planners. Among our current students we have a future play-by-play person for the Boston Red Sox and several others interested in sports journalism; a few Michael Moores in the making; and a number of other students who “just want to do something related to media or journalism.” The options are limitless!

We want to hear from you as well. If you’re a Media and Society alum, please e-mail us at Deutchman@hws.edu to update us on what you’re doing. We’d love to know. And if you’re an alum who is looking to hire an intern, let us know as well! All of our students engage in internships as part of the Media and Society major and we would love to secure them good placements with our own alumni/ae.
