Each Media and Society major is required to do a for-credit, non-graded internship
as part of the major. Our students have done a variety of internships.
Some have worked for television stations and others have worked for newspapers.
Some have worked for radio stations and others have worked in public relations
firms. Some have worked in New York City, in Philadelphia, in Minneapolis,
and Los Angeles while others have done on-campus internships with Alumni
House or the Office of Communications. Some off-campus programs, notably
Los Angeles and London and Washington, D.C., have provided internship
possibilities for Media and Society majors. The point is that the internship
possibilities are endless.
Students report that the benefits of internships have been extraordinary.
And often the benefits are unexpected. A number of students have learned,
after they have finished their internship, that they did not want to work
for a television station or a public relations firm, etc. upon graduation.
Other students have had their minds opened to work possibilities they
would never have previously considered.
