Steve Curry is a widely respected jazz drummer in Central
New York. He has studied drumming with jazz legend Vincent
Ruggeiro and percussion with John McNeil of the Rochester Philharmonic
Orchestra.
Curry currently performs with The Gap Mangione Big Band and
the past has performed with Chuck Mangione, Jeff Jarvis, Bob
Militello and the Rochester Philharmonic with Jeff Tyzik. Recent "pick
up" gigs have united him with Jerry Vale, Mickey Rooney,
Frank Gorshin , Donald O'Conner, Kenny Rankin, Mark Murphy,
and others. He currently leads the well-known New Millennium
Jazz Quartet, which regularly performs concerts and workshops
in schools throughout upstate New York as part of the Young
Audiences of Rochester organization.
He plays on the complete sound track for the full-length feature
film "The Next Big Thing," which was released recently
on DVD. In addition, he plays on various recordings as house
drummer at The Studios at Linden Oaks. Additionally, Curry
has provided music for HBO presentations, including for the
successful documentary "In this Corner," and on numerous
national and regional television commercials.
Prior to coming to HWS in 2002, Curry taught percussion for
17 years at the Hochstein School of Music in Rochester.
