Meg Cognetta Heaton

Meg Cognetta Heaton graduated from Oberlin Conservatory with a B.Mus. in piano performance. While at Oberlin she studied with Wilbur Price. Additional teachers have included Malcolm Bilson, Victor Rosenbaum, Bruce Simonds, and Donald Walker.

Heaton has extensive experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. Her solo performances include Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Finger Lakes Symphony, Mozart’s Duo Piano Concerto with Hilda Collins (piano) and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with the Hobart and William Smith Chorale.

In addition to playing piano trios and quartets with her string-playing siblings and children, she has performed as guest pianist with the Janus Ensemble, comprised of string players from the Syracuse Symphony. She is also a member of the Geneva Piano Quartette, four pianists who meet weekly to play music for two pianos, eight hands. She has been an accompanist for Ithaca Talent Education’s Suzuki program for over twenty-five years, and the North Street Singers for twenty. She has accompanied the HWS Community Chorus for many seasons and has worked with the Ithaca Violoncello Institute and the Ithaca violin studio of Linda Case. In 2003, she was a recipient of the TANYS excellence award for musical accompaniment for her work in “The Fantasticks.”
