Deanna L. Joseph has served on the faculties at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Smith College. At UMass she led the Chamber Choir, the University Chorale, the Women's Choir and taught choral conducting in the Department of Music and Dance. At Smith College Joseph led the Chorus, the Chamber Choir, and the Wind Ensemble. She also taught sight singing, conducting, and choral literature.
Joseph is founder and artistic director of the semi-professional chorus Hodie. She has served as conductor of the South Hadley Chorale, with whom she performed works such as Mendelssohn's Elijah and the Beethoven Mass in C. She also holds a summer faculty position at the School of Choral Studies of the New York State Summer School for the Arts.
Joseph is active as a soprano soloist, performing regularly with Voices (Rochester, NY). She also performed formerly with the Arcadia Players and the vocal sextet Cantabile (both of the Pioneer Valley, MA). As director of the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Community Chorus Joseph will perform Haydn’s Creation in Fall 2009. She is currently a doctoral candidate in choral conducting at the Eastman School of Music.
