Alan Mandel

MandelAlan Mandel has taught applied jazz saxophone at the Colleges since 2003. He earned a B.A. from SUNY Oswego, an M.A. from CUNY Queens College, plus 30 graduate credits from SUNY Potsdam, and a D.M.A. from CUNY Graduate Center in New York.

He is an accomplished woodwind performer, owning and playing over 90 woodwind instruments. Before moving from Long Island, he taught for 11 years at Five Towns College, teaching courses including harmony, ear training, music history, arranging, woodwind lessons, and improvisation.

Also while at Five Towns College Mandel served as Director of Online Courses and taught online courses in music appreciation, history, and theory. The Five Towns College Jazz Ensemble played under his direction on the main stage at Carnegie Hall and on many occasions at the International Brass Conference.

Mandel was also musical director of and primary woodwind soloist with the Hal Hoffman Orchestra, 1978-1998 In Geneva, he plays with Agonal Rhythm (doctors from Geneva General Hospital), Southern Tier All-Star Jazz Band, For Dancers Only, and IN2RHYTHM.
