Troy
M. Slocum is a cum laude graduate of Nazareth
College of Rochester with a B.M. degree in piano performance;
he studied there with Dr. Beverly Smoker, chair of the keyboard
department. Mr. Slocum also has pursued graduate studies
in piano performance at Syracuse University as a graduate
assistant to Dr. Fred Karpoff, and he has studied privately
with Patricia Hanson from the Eastman School of Music and
Dr. Joseph Decharrio from SUNY Geneseo.
Mr. Slocum is an active recitalist
and accompanist in the Rochester area. He has performed solo
and chamber works in various venues throughout the region and
is a versatile pianist, comfortable in several styles of music
from cocktail piano to classical.
Mr. Slocum has been teaching privately in
the Rochester area for the past ten years and has had several
award winning students in various piano competitions. His students
have been winners of the Howard Hanson Award and the David
Hochstein Memorial Recital Competition, among others. Many
of his students have gone on to attend music colleges across
the country and are pursuing advanced studies in piano performance
and music education.
Mr. Slocum is very active in local and national
music organizations. He is currently the President of the Rochester
Piano Teachers’ Guild, and he is a member of the National Federation
Of Music Clubs, National Guild of Piano Teachers, and the Music
Teachers National Association.
