J. Jeffrey Stempien is
director of bands at the Penn Yan Middle School. He holds the
Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Mansfield State College
and a Master's of Music Education Degree from Ithaca College.
Stempien has been in the teaching field field for over thirty
years, including five years of public school teaching at the
middle school in Milford, Delaware, and 25 years at both
the high and middle school in Penn Yan, where he has also served
as fine arts coordinator. In addition to his work at Hobart
and William Smith, he teaches private trumpet at Keuka College.
As a performer, Stempien serves as principal trumpet of the
Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes and plays in the Southern
Tier All-Star Jazz Band. He is frequently called upon as a
freelance trumpet player. He also serves as adult instrument
and vocal director at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church;
during the summer he directs the Penn Yan Area Community Band.
Stempien, who has been a guest conductor or adjudicator at
several music festivals and competitions in New York State,
is a member of NYSSMA, NYSBDA, Phi Mu Alpha, and Kappa Kappa
Psi.
Jeff Stempien has two grown daughters Heather and Aimee and
lives in Keuka Park with his wife Elly.
