Written and Directed by Gwynne Decker A 2004 graduate of William Smith College, Gwynne Decker spent the Spring 2002 semester studying in Hanoi with a group of Hobart and William Smith Colleges and Union College students and faculty. Gwynne’s experiences in Vietnam and follow-up research she completed as part of an honor’s project form the basis of this segment, entitled “Exploring Vietnam: A Woman’s Journey”. The segment has a dual focus; in part, it is the story of Gwynne’s journey of personal discovery as she sets out to learn more about her family history over thirty years after her father and grandfather served in Vietnam during the war. At the same time, the segment also explores the varied and evolving roles of women in Vietnamese society as seen through the experiences of two Vietnamese scholars. |
