Albert Holland Prize for Public Presentations of Physics 2001

The winner of the 2001 Albert Holland Prize is Kristin Schram!

The fourth Albert Holland Prize competition was held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 10, 2001. An audience of students, faculty, and community members heard an array of impressive students lectures. Each lecture derived an important result in Physics. The five student contestants represented the diversity of the Hobart and William Smith Natural Science Division. The contestant and their lectures, in order of presentation, were:

  • Grace Logan '04, a first-year student
    Equations of Motion for a Mass on a Spring
  • Emelyn Smithe '03, a sophomore Chemistry major
    The Energy of a Particle in a box
  • Kristin Schram '03, a sophomore Chemistry major
    Energy, Escape Velocity, and Black Holes
  • Bradley Hirschy '01, a senior Physics major
    Maxwell's Equations and Electromagnetic Waves
  • John Thomas '01, a senior Chemistry major
    The Carnot Cycle

Prof. Larry Campbell moderated the event. The judges were Prof. Donald Spector (Physics), Prof. James Crenner (English), and Prof. James Spates (Sociology).

Kristin Schram was chosen the winner! Congratulations to all the contestants!
