Eaton
Hall opened as an addition to Lansing Hall in 1961 and housed the physics
and biology departments. Eaton Hall provided space for the Colleges' carefully
amassed natural history and specimen collection, new labs, faculty offices
and classrooms.
The building was named after eminent biology professor Elon H. Eaton.
This nationally-known ornithologist's "Birds of New York," written
while he was a professor here, appeared in three volumes and was a much-respected
work.
Today, the physics department is still based in Eaton, and the biology
department continues to keep some faculty offices and classrooms there.
One can still admire the cabinets full of natural specimens that line
its hallways.
