While classroom preparation in the U.S. can take you far, the only true way to learn about Russia is to spend time there. We offer two principal options for students, which are not mutually exclusive:
1. The Russian Study Tour
This is a 10-day trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg, led by one of our langauge faculty. It is intended for students who are just beginning their language instruction, although upper-level students are welcome if space is available. First and second year students must satisfactorily complete RUS 101/102 or RUS 105 in order to participate. The tour takes place in May, after the semester ends, each year. To see a slideshow of last year's tour, click on here or on"The Russian Study Tour" at left. To find out more, see Prof. Galloway or Prof. Welsh.
2. Semester/Year Abroad
Students who have had 2-3 years of language study may elect for a semester or year abroad in one of several Russian cities, including Moscow, Petersburg, Vladimir, and Yaroslavl. This is highly encouraged for students majoring in Russian Language and Culture. Participants receive full credit for courses taken at their host Russian university, and live with a Russian host family. NOTE: application deadlines for semester or year abroad are set by Center for Global Education, and you should make sure you plan well in advance so as to submit your materials on time.
