Overview
The RST is a 10-day trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg, led by one of our language faculty. It is intended for students who are just beginning their study of Russian, although upper-level students are welcome if space is available. First and second year students must satisfactorily complete RUS 101/102 or RUS 105 in order to participate. The tour takes place in May each year, after the semester ends.
The RST introduces students to various sites in Moscow and Petersburg. In past years the tour has taken students to the following:
- In/Around Moscow: the Kremlin and Red Square, St. Basil's Cathedral, the Red October Chocolate Factory, Fedoskino Artist's Workshop
- In/Around Petersburg: the Hermitage/Winter Palace, the Peter and Paul Fortress, St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Cathedral on the Spilled Blood, the Museum of the Siege and Piskaryovskoe Memorial Cemetery.
- Entertainment such as ballets and operas at the Bolshoi (Moscow) and Mariinsky (Petersburg) theatres, and the Moscow Circus.
For information on the next RST, contact Prof. Galloway (galloway@hws.edu).

Students who participate in the Russian Study Tour pay all their own expenses; no funds are received from the Colleges to defray student costs. Because every year there are students who cannot afford to participate, we have made it possible for donations to be made to a new fund which will help to offset the expenses of students who could not otherwise participate. To contribute, please send a check payable to Hobart & William Smith Colleges, with a note indicating it is to be applied to the RST fund, to this address:
